FAQs

Ideally, portfolio development begins in early high school, around 9th or 10th grade, to give your child time to build skills, experiment creatively, and develop a body of work that reflects their growth and interests. However, we work with students at every stage. If your child is in their senior year or approaching deadlines, we offer strategic guidance to help prioritize and complete a competitive portfolio.

That’s actually the perfect time to begin. The earlier we start, the more time your child has to build skills, experiment creatively, and develop a strong, cohesive portfolio. Starting early also means less stress when deadlines approach. Whether your child is in 9th grade or just beginning to consider creative college options, we’ll meet them where they are and guide them forward with a customized plan.

Not at all. While we specialize in preparing students for competitive programs like RISD, ArtCenter, and CalArts, our services are beneficial to any creative student aiming for a college that requires or values a strong portfolio. We adapt to each student’s goals, whether they’re aiming for the Ivy League or a strong state university art program.

Yes. Many families find that combining services, for example, starting with an Artwork Assessment, then continuing with Tailored Art Projects or Admissions Strategy, gives their child the most support and clarity throughout the process. We’re happy to recommend the best sequence or bundle based on your child’s goals and timeline. If you already know which services you’re interested in, we can create a custom plan that aligns with your schedule and goals.

Yes. For a multi-week service like Tailored Art Projects, payment is made before each session, never in one lump sum. One-time services like an Interview Coaching are typically paid in full before the session begins. If you need to spread payments across a longer timeline, let us know, we’re happy to discuss options.

Once you fill out the form and we confirm the session, we’ll send an invoice via a secure online payment platform (like PayPal). Payment is due before the first session begins. For multi-week services like Tailored Projects, you pay weekly before each session.

That’s perfectly normal. Many creative students are still exploring their interests. Our Artwork Assessment and Tailored Art Projects are designed to uncover strengths, identify passions, and build a strong creative foundation while keeping doors open. As students grow and explore, we adjust the roadmap accordingly. For example, we had a student who came to us in 10th grade. He did 3 Tailored Projects with us. He won several contests and together we put together an elite level portfolio (Portfolio Prep service) that we tailored to each school he applied to. His book gained him a full scholarship to College for Creative Studies, which he turned down. He chose to go to the University of Illinois (where he also received a scholarship) to study Product Design Management. He wanted to combine his love of design with his interest in business.

Artwork Assessment is a one-time service that evaluates your child’s current work, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. It’s perfect for both early-stage students and those closer to applying.

Tailored Projects is a weekly mentorship program that guides your child through creating new, high-quality portfolio pieces based on their needs, interests, and target schools. Many families begin with an assessment, then move into a 4, 8, or 12-week project cycle.

Another way of looking at it is, the Artwork Assessment supports and informs the direction of the Project. The Project is custom-designed the way it is because of the Assessment. This maximizes the results for the student.

That’s very common and something we’re deeply sensitive to. Our sessions are student-centered, encouraging, and grounded in professional respect. We meet students where they are, affirm their efforts, and guide them forward without judgment. Micheal is able to connect with young creatives due to his own experience of being in their shoes when he was their age. Many students find our sessions motivating and even exciting once they realize they’re being treated like a future professional.

After you complete the form, we’ll send simple instructions for uploading your child’s work digitally to a secure Dropbox folder. We accept JPEGs, PNGs, PDFs, or links to online folders (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). If your child has physical work, clear photos or scans are perfectly fine.

That’s actually a great time to start. We can begin with a Artwork Assessment based on sketchbooks, class projects, or even creative hobbies. Then we’ll provide a clear roadmap for building the right body of work whether you choose to work alone or create through one of our custom Tailored Art Projects.

Yes and in fact, many of our students have intersecting interests (for example, fine art and fashion, or product design and architecture). We help them shape a narrative that’s authentic and compelling, while also guiding them in building an art portfolio that meets the expectations of more than one discipline if needed.

Our Art College Admissions Strategy Service evaluates your child’s strengths, goals, and personality, then aligns them with programs known for excellence in those areas whether that’s fine arts, animation, product design, or architecture. We consider academic and artistic rigor, campus culture, portfolio expectations, and long-term career opportunities to create a customized list of target, reach, and safety schools.

Yes. We’ve worked with students from around the world including India, Portugal, United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Spain and Canada. We can accommodate time zone differences and help navigate the unique admissions considerations international applicants may face, including language, visa, or formatting requirements for portfolio submission.
